A Sullington Warren field day in July was added to the annual programme this year. In past years the Society has taken a break from Sullington Warren during July and August but it was decided that we should test whether a sufficient number of volunteers could be attracted to Sullington Warren in July to make July field days worthwhile.
Eight adult volunteers plus two youngsters who are doing their Duke of Edinburgh award with us at the Warren, turned up. We welcomed a new volunteer, who joined the Society in March and is also a regular NT volunteer.
The tasks for the morning were to continue bracken pulling and removing sapling on the dry heath and to start clearing saplings and shrubs from an area of the heath adjacent to the path near the Heather Way entrance.
The refreshment break couldn’t come too soon as it was a very warm morning.
The plant material we removed was put into large builders’ bags and loaded onto the trailer to be taken away.
The consensus of opinion was that July field days at the Warren should become a fixture.
The next field day at the Warren will be in September. The plan is to move operations to the wet heath area near the Water Lane end. Please look out for posters and details on this website and the Facebook page for details.
