John is the Volunteer Team Manager at RSPB.  He gave a talk to the Society in February 2022 about the history and management of RSPB Pulborough brooks. He returns this year to give us an interesting talk about raptors.

Raptors are intelligent and highly adaptive birds, several species of which can be seen in our local area, including in recent years White Tailed Eagles which have come from the reintroduction of those birds by the Roy Dennis Wildlife Foundation, in conjunction with Forestry England, to the Isle of Wight.

The talk is a study of the birds of prey which visit the reserve from the smallest, the Merlin, to the largest, the White Tailed Eagle  (also known as the Sea Eagle). It will look at their specialist attributes and anatomy which enable them to successfully predate on their victims and survive, their habitats, and the obstacles that various species have overcome and continue to encounter.

The talk starts at 7:30pm. Please arrive early to take your seat so that the talk can start promptly.

Entrance is just £2 for Sandgate Conservation Society members and £4 for non-members. Light refreshments will be available after the talk.
