Sat 9 May 
Sullington Warren 9:30 – 12:00
Task will be working on a bank near to the 39 steps. The National Trust had a contractor work on this area last autumn, removing the large scrubby species, with the plan being to expand the heath area. We will be raking the thatch off to expose bare ground and cutting back some low growing brambles.
Meet on the central Green. Look for the National Trust vehicle.
Tools, gloves and refreshments provided.
All welcome. Under 18s accompanied.

Storrington Duck Race, 
Storrington Library Car Park 11:30-3:30pm
Lost Woods have invited us to join them on their stand at this popular annual family and community event in aid of Friends of Storrington School (FOSS). Come along to say hello and enjoy the fun and entertainment on offer.

White Stork and Nature Festival, Chanctonbury Leisure Centre, Storrington 10:00-3:30pm
The Society is excited to be having a stall at this festival and we look forward to seeing you there. Full article on the event in our 2026 newsletter just published. This major event which will feature many local conservation groups, interesting talks and more.

Annual General Meeting of Sandgate Conservation Society,
Trinity Methodist Hall, Thakeham Road, Storrington RH20 3NG 7:30pm with Speaker Dr Les Allen-Williams on ‘The Dragonflies of Sandgate Park’
Dr Les Allen-Williams, B.Sc. Ph.D. FRES. was Principal Lecturer in Ecology at the University of Hertfordshire for 37 years and specialised in Entomology and Species Conservation teaching and research. His talk will enlighten us about dragonflies and damselflies and the value of a scrape-pond, plus how he saw the Sandgate Park scrape-pond change when he was recording insects there.
Following the talk and a refreshment break/social time we will have our AGM. Come along to hear reports from the committee members, have your say on Society matters and vote for the new committee.
An opportunity to meet like-minded nature lovers and your Trustees in person.
No charge for the event. Non-members are welcome to attend and there will be an opportunity to sign up as a member to vote at the AGM. We look forward to welcoming you.

**NO WORK PARTY**
Nature Discovery Walk with the National Trust rangers at Sullington Warren 10:00-12:00
Meet on the central Green at 9.45am. Look for the National Trust vehicle. National Trust rangers Lee and Caroline, who lead our conservation mornings, will take us on a walk around Sullington Warren. Come and discover lots of interesting things about the flora and fauna that thrives here, and past and present conservation projects.
Refreshments provided at the end of the walk. No charge for the event and all welcome.

Sandgate Park woods 10:00 – 12:00
Bracken cutting around the scrape pond or near the dry heathland.
Meet by the benches at the heather mound near Sandgate Lane entrance to the woods, opposite the twitten from Hillside Road.
Tools, gloves and refreshments provided.
All welcome. Under 18s accompanied.

Tree Discovery Walk at Sandgate Park with Bob Epsom from the Woodland Trust 10:00-12:00

Meet 9:45am at the benches by the heather mound in Sandgate Park, near the Sandgate Lane entrance to the woods.
Come and learn more about the wonderful trees we have in Sandgate Park and meet people. After the walk there will be an opportunity to train in Ancient and Veteran Tree Recording methods to enable you to get involved with the Woodland Trust’s Ancient Tree Inventory. No charge for the event and all welcome.

Sat 25 Jul 
Sandgate Park woods 10:00 – 12:00
Pulling Himalayan balsam along the stream from Sandgate Lane to the hidden pond. 
Please wear clothing to protect from biting insects and waterproof footwear as we will be working in a boggy area.
Meet by the benches at the heather mound near Sandgate Lane entrance to the woods, opposite the twitten from Hillside Road.
Tools, gloves and refreshments provided.
All welcome. Under 18s accompanied.
